Moving in

Top - H&M
Skirt - H&M (Similar)
Sandals - New Look

So today I have moved into my new house for university! I have a lovely little cosy room painted in yellow, which I have enjoyed adding all my own little touches to. I love how homely it feels and how sociable it will be. I've been looking forward to moving in for a couple of weeks! I may do a room tour in a couple of days as I love looking at that sort of thing on blogs.

It actually turned out to be too warm to wear this pleather skirt - it's been lovely and sunny all day. Typical that it is forecast to go nice once I go back to university. I'm in 9-5 most days this week so it's going to be very busy! However I'm still hoping to post every day, so keep coming back to check out what I'm doing :)

Symptom: Tired all the time

Depression fatigue

Depression fatigue

Following on from low mood, low self-esteem and suicidal thoughts in my "symptoms of depression" posts, I thought I would today focus on feeling tired all the time. Fatigue is one of those things that can be attributed to most conditions under the sun, but mine always seems to get worse on my bad days, so I'm pretty sure it's related to my depression. Take today, for example - I have been at work all morning and haven't felt that great, so I went straight for a 3 hour nap as soon as I got home. I also find that I sleep less well in the night (hence the sleep balm!), which also doesn’t help with feeling tired in the day. I take ages to get to sleep and then wake up most hours in the morning on a bad night. I then find myself getting into a habit of napping in the day, which is apparently quite a common symptom of depression.

Fatigue is probably one of the worst physical symptoms of depression for me; it may not sound that bad but not being able to stay awake when I’m trying to study is quite frustrating. Especially during exam time when I was trying to revise! However my symptoms seem to be improving recently, and I find myself going whole nights without waking up, which feels amazing. I still feel tired a lot of the time, but I'm hoping that will improve for me soon too. To help myself get to sleep on nights that I find it difficult, I will usually get up and read for a bit or sit downstairs. I find it really hard to find anything that works for me, as these two tricks only work some of the time, and I can never stop my mind from running away with my thoughts; I definitely worry too much. It's really frustrating just lying there not being able to sleep - I'm sure most of you will have experienced this at one point or another too. I am also trying to cut down on the napping during the day where I can, as this probably doesn't help me get to sleep at night. The This Works Sleep Balm in the photo above is additionally useful on nights when I can't sleep - I'm not sure how much it helps but it smells divine of lavender!

I am going to spend this evening packing for university and watching a film with my mum, while pigging out on chocolate and biscuits. Sounds like a perfect night in for me!

Ironbridge, situated on the River Severn in Shropshire, is best known for having the first cast iron bridge in the world, built in 1779. It now is a popular tourist destination with many little cafes and gift shops along the riverside, including the famous Merrythought teddy bear company shop. We went there this afternoon, along with my cousin, and spent some time wondering around the shops. Then we went to Darby's tea room, where I had a lovely banana milkshake and a big piece of coffee and walnut cake.

Afterwards we visited Tesco to pick up some bits that I need for university - I go back in a couple of days and am really looking forward to it! I also had another email today from someone that found another of my post-it notes for Project Smile. It really makes my day to hear that they are making people smile, and spreading a little bit of kindness around! Off to have a nap now, I'm exhausted...

New camera lens

Accessorize Camera Bag

Silver pizza necklace

Top - New Look
Trousers - Primark

Sandals - Primark
Necklace - eBay
Rings - Pandora (here and here)

Today has been quite a lazy day - I managed to lie in until 12 and then I went to Telford with my sister to do some shopping and put a few more post-it notes up for Project Smile (let me know if you find one! hannahvenables19@gmail.com). Then I picked my cousin up from the train station as she's staying with us for a couple of days, and am currently catching up on the Great British Bake Off. It has been lovely weather here today so this outfit seemed to work. How cute is the pizza necklace?!

These photos were taken with my new camera lens (Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II). The smaller aperture makes the background look more blurred so that the photos have a lovely dreamy quality to them. The lens only cost about £76, and I would really recommend it to anyone interested in photography, especially portrait photography. Please ignore the white paint splatters all over my hands in the top picture; I made a bit of a mess when I was painting the summer house yesterday, and struggled to get rid of it!

Accept the things you can't change, change the things you can

I'm sure my dog needs glasses - this morning he mistook a bush to be another dog. It always makes me feel good whenever I walk my dogs; they always make me laugh and the exercise is a good way to release endorphins.

Today I have finished the first coat of paint on the two side walls of the summer house for Project Summer House. The back wall is already completely finished apart from a few touch-ups - I really can't wait to start adding furnishings! I have also been to see my counsellor this afternoon. She made me realise that when people say they are having a 'bad day', they are often just focused on one or two events that happened during the day. Why give up there? You can make the rest of the 24 hours a good day! You may have had a bad hour or so, but it doesn't necessarily mean you have to have a bad day. We also discussed the fact that sometimes you just have to accept certain situations because they can't be changed. For example, you may have had a bad break up and won't get back together with that person. However think of the good things that you got from that experience - you may now have more freedom or be a stronger person. Don't regret things in the past as they all make you the lovely person you are today. On the other hand, if there are things that you don't like that can be changed - change them. Have that hair cut; start some exercise; admit to that person that you have feelings for them. This is all summed up in the Serenity Prayer, which goes:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Deep, huh? Anyway onto more superficial things... Yes, I have worn this outfit before (here), but I love my clothes too much to only wear them once! There's a lot of pressure on bloggers to produce new outfits every day, but most people don't have the funds or the time to do so. I love new clothes but I also love my old ones. I'm wearing this to go out for yet another curry, with one of my best friends. It's a good job I like Indian food so much!

Nail Varnish - Barry M Spring Green

If you're following me on Twitter or Instagram you will have seen that another person found one of my Project Smile post-it notes! She also sent me a photo - it really made my day to realise that my efforts aren't going to waste and that my little notes are making people happy. More post-it notes will be going up this week, so watch out for them and contact me if you find one (hannahvenables19@gmail.com)!

My thing I enjoy doing for today has been slobbing out on the sofa after work this morning. I am also going out for a curry this evening with my family (although this dress has no room for a food baby...), which I have been looking forward to all day. This outfit is more sporty than I would usually wear; I've really got into wearing trainers and I think that the green accents bring some fun colour to an otherwise plain outfit.

Today has been a typical British day of a full English breakfast, a countryside walk, and rain. You wouldn't believe it is August here, we've had the heating on all day! I am actually looking forward to the Autumn - I love wearing snuggly clothes and having an excuse to hide under a blanket all day. I also love Halloween, bonfire night and Christmas, so loads of events to look forward to!

This afternoon I have spent a few hours playing board games with my family. It's really fun once in a while to sit around and compete against each other - luckily none of us are too competitive so it doesn't cause many arguments (as long as you let my youngest sister win). I have enjoyed just having a fairly lazy day sitting around and chatting to my family; we all get along really well and they are so supportive and fun to spend time with. Having fajitas for tea tonight - mmmm one of my favourite meals.
