HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATIE!!! Today is my beautiful younger sister's 19th birthday, and I can't believe how fast she's growing up. I've told her that she's not allowed to have another birthday as she's making me feel to old.

Last night to celebrate we went to Shrewsbury (see my post on it here) with our cousin and a few of her friends. We had such a good night dancing and laughing, but by 1am we were pooped and left (with a quick stop at McDonald's for a banana milkshake) - I am definitely getting too old for late nights... Today we went for a meal, which I will post a quick review on tomorrow, and then I travelled back to uni this evening. I had a lovely weekend, and it was all topped off by my mum being cute and presenting me with a Ciate advent calendar (here), which she knew I really wanted because of my blog post on non-chocolate advent calendars! I'm so excited to start opening it tomorrow and see which colour I can try out first.

My sister is such an amazing and thoughtful person, and I was honoured to celebrate her birthday weekend with her. Love you lots and lots, Katie!

Just a quick one

Just a quick post tonight as I'm about to go out with my sister for her birthday. I'll post a couple of outfit photos tomorrow! I didn't wake until 2pm today and then I've just been relaxing and watching TV. Last night I had a good long chat with my Mum - I love her so much, she stays up until ungodly hours just talking to me. I feel like I can talk to her about anything and know she'll never judge me.

This photo is from a few years ago and is of me and my sisters - they're both little rascals but I love them a lot too (see my post on them here). Katie, this is your last birthday now as you're making me feel far too old - I can't believe that my baby sister is 19!

Today I had a bit of a lie-in and then I caught the train home for the weekend. I had another counsellor's session and we were talking a bit about trauma and then emotionally abusive relationships and low self-esteem. She really seems to be helping me see clearly and get my head around things that have happened in the past that may have contributed to my depression - hopefully I'll only need a few more sessions.

I am loving George Ezra at the moment - he has a gorgeous voice and his lyrics really mean something. I listened to him all the way back home on my iPod (along with a few Christmas songs). I also love this Asda skirt at the moment - they seem to have some really good clothing items in this season.

So as you can probably tell, today I went to see Annie at the Liverpool Empire Theatre. It was so good - the girl that played Annie was amazing (I wish I could sing like her), and the set was lovely. They added in a few new songs but still had the old classics like Tomorrow and It's A Hard Knock Life. I haven't watched the film for ages and didn't remember that it was quite Christmassy, so that was a lovely surprise too.

I have been feeling very festive these past few days. On the way to and from hospital today I sung some amazing renditions of Last Christmas and I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - everyone in the car loved it (and thank you Pete, my amazing backing singer who sung the harmonies). I also went to my second sign language lesson tonight, and now know how to count to 100, sign the year, and say "what", "why", "how", "who" and "where". I'm off home tomorrow as it's my sister's birthday this weekend, and am looking forward to some home comforts and a couple of days where I don't have to cook for myself!

"But it's still November!"

Yes, it's still November, and yes, it's still a month until Christmas, but who can resist when the decorations are as pretty as these?! I've been feeling very festive this week and bugged my housemates to let me put up our decorations, and I'm actually very pleased with them. The Christmas tree and present lights are quite old, but the rest of our decorations are just from Asda. I love using baubles to hang everywhere - you can bring a touch of Christmas to all of the house at a very low price. We still have some paper chains to make but other than that I think we're pretty much finished!

I also wanted to buy this cute garland but it was out of stock in our nearest Asda. I actually can't wait for Christmas now, it's definitely my favourite time of year! I also had my first mince pie of the year today with my friend Neala - we had a healthy stir fry and then decided that we definitely deserved one.

Another couple of people have contacted me on Instagram saying that they have found one of my Project Smile post-it notes - it's so lovely to hear their comments. One girl commented saying that it was girls looking out for each other, and I think that's a lovely way to think about it. I like that it makes girls in particular feel good about themselves, as so much pressure is put on us to look and act a certain way, when actually we're amazing as we are. Girl power! (Wow that was cheesy).

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Red Hot Buffet Liverpool

These photos are from yesterday when we went ice skating and to the Red Hot Buffet for Sydney's birthday. As you can probably tell, we had loads of fun, and I have the big red swollen bruise on the top of my thigh to prove it. Ice skating is so lovely this time of year - it really got me in the festive mood and I now can't wait to decorate our house for Christmas!

Today hasn't been that great for me - I was so exhausted this morning and physically and emotionally couldn't get myself out of bed. I eventually woke up at 2pm, did some work and have just been chatting and watching TV this evening. I'm so scared of hurtling backwards into my depression that sometimes I think I hang onto having bad days sometimes as it's familiar to me and nothing is changing too much.

London

I went to London with Roxy on Saturday and had a lovely day, so thought I'd share some of my photos on here. We travelled from Birmingham and got our train tickets for £6 each way with a rail card as we booked in advance, which was really reasonable. We also bought an underground ticket for a day's travel when we got to London, which was around £8.

POPPIES
The first thing we did was catch the train to the Tower of London. We wanted to see the exhibition created by Paul Cummins and Tom Piper named Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red, which displayed 888,246 ceramic poppies for the centenary of the First World War. Each poppy represented a British fatality during the war, and progressively filled the moat between July and 11th November. Unfortunately quite a lot of the flowers had been taken down by this weekend, but there were still 400,000 left (!). The display was absolutely amazing to see - I especially loved the poppies flowing over the bridge - and I would definitely recommend that people go and see it before they are all taken down by the end of November.

We then caught the train to Knightsbridge to have a visit to Harrods. How could we miss it near Christmas time?! The decorations were so beautiful and all of the food looked incredible. We spent ages looking around the toy and Disney shop and even checked out the toilets to see how amazing they are. The window displays outside were all lovely, especially the ones with the mechanical reindeers and Santa on his sleigh.

COVENT GARDEN
The last thing we did was visit Covent Garden. It was on my wish list because it's a lovely place to visit near Christmas with the giant bauble decorations and glitter balls. It was really busy so we went in a few shops like Mac, Radley and Paperchase, and then went to Pizza Express for lunch. I had a goat's cheese calzone which was delicious, and Roxy had the pepperoni pizza with a caesar salad. I filled myself up with various bits of chocolate throughout the day, and a chocolate cupcake from Milly's Cookies at the train station before we left.

All in all I had a lovely day wandering the streets of London - it was very tired as we were up at 5am to catch the train, but I really did enjoy it. It's a great place to visit as there is so much to see, especially near Christmas. Today I was in hospital and then we went ice-skating to celebrate my housemate's 21st birthday at the ice rink in Liverpool One. It was lovely because they had quite a few Christmas songs playing, but I was very wobbly and Bambi-like at first. After a while I got into it but then got a bit over-confident and ended up with my bum on the icy cold floor - I'm definitely going to have an attractive bruise tomorrow! We then went to the Red Hot Buffet for a late dinner and I'm so stuffed now that I need to sleep for about 12 hours for my tummy to go down.
