Too hot, hot damn, called a police and a fireman

How hot has it been today?! Don't get me wrong it's lovely, but not the nicest whilst I'm stuck inside revising. I feel like I should be on holiday next to a pool! We definitely need to get a paddling pool for our uni house. All day I've just been singing Uptown Funk (hence the title of this post) because me and my housemate have been saying we're too hot. We often get into those moods where you sing a song that relates to anything you say - it's an easy way to procrastinate, if nothing else.

As you've probably gathered I've just been revising all day today. It's the last few days before our exams start so the cramming has really begun. This evening I thought I would reward myself with a few episodes of Once Upon A Time, some biscuits, a good book, and Nutella. After all, there's only so much work you can do in one day. I think it's so important to take lots of breaks and call it a day when you get too tired.
You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.

70s style dress

Dress - Forever 21
Sandals - F&F at Tesco
Necklace - Topshop

This is the dress I wore to go out for a meal yesterday, and I have fallen in love with it. It has a really simple smock shape with a v-neck which is super flattering, and the long beautiful lace sleeves make it look like it's come straight from the 70s. I really like how it is plain black as I like adding colour and patterns to outfits and it's really easy to do with this one - I just put on these leopard print sandals and a simple gold necklace, but I could have styled it with a brightly coloured necklace or tights and boots. It will definitely work as well for the winter as it will for the summer. The only thing is, it is a little see-through, but I got round that problem by putting a slip underneath it.

Today has been another longggg day of revision. My exams start on Friday and I just want to get them over and done with now. Roll on next week!

Happy Birthday Mollie and Grandad!

The Fox at Shipley, Wolverhampton Road, Wolverhampton, WV6 7EH

Just a quick one today as my internet at home is really playing up (#countrysideproblems). Today was my sister and Grandad's birthday, so we all went out to The Fox at Shipley for Sunday lunch. The Fox is one of my favourite restaurants ever, so I was really looking forward to it and really hungry by the time we got there at 2pm.

I decided to have the king prawns for my starter, which were served with a sweet chilli dip. All of the mains are 2 for 1 which makes it great value for money - we all had the Sunday dinner. And as you can see, they don't scrimp on the portion sizes! (A boat load of roast potatoes and parsnips were added to this after the photo). For pudding I had a small banoffee ice-cream - I usually have the 'regular' size (which are literally XXXL) but couldn't manage it today after all that food. I'm still stuffed now.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOLLIE AND GRANDAD!

BBQ

Today has been such lovely weather, so my family and I decided to have a barbecue this evening for tea. We always have so much food whenever we have a barbecue - it's funny that as soon as you grill food outside you eat more than normal; I'll have 3 sausages, 2 burgers, some salmon and a couple of chicken legs please. Plus an armful of bread rolls and a huge pile of salad. Ah, barbecues make me happy.

It's so nice being home and spending some quality time with my family - I really miss them while I'm at university. It's really making me look forward to my summer and being here for a good 6 weeks. I hope you've all had a lovely Saturday!

Carnival

I came back home for the weekend today, and my sister and I decided to venture over to Shifnal carnival this evening. I wasn't expecting much but I actually had a really good time! Shifnal carnival is on every year during the last weekend of June, and on the Saturday they have a parade. Today it was quite quiet, but we went on some of the rides and Katie won a fluffy duck on hook a duck so she was happy. I couldn't stop giggling the whole time we were on the rides and I had such a lovely time catching up with my sister. It ended up being a really good evening!

My exams start a week today so I'm spending this weekend with my family, before diving head-first into full-on revision next week. I can't wait to get them over and done with now!
Don't just be good to others. Be good to yourself too.

Why can't we all give ourselves a little more self-love?

I took part in the #lbloggers chat on Twitter yesterday (@LbloggersChat), and the topic was 'self love'. The first question that was asked was, "Everyone has their favourite bloggers but can you introduce yourself by saying one positive thing about you?". The first thing I thought was "oh Godddd this is such a hard question"... And then I started to notice similar comments coming from lots of the other bloggers, and that saddened me. Why are we so harsh on ourselves, and why is it so much easier to think of negatives than positives?

Women these days are always told to celebrate themselves, to be confident, to love themselves. But then as soon as they are a little more confident and start to believe that they are beautiful, they are seen by society as vain and self-centred.

I think it is drilled into us to be modest from an early age, and for that reason so many people find it much easier to put themselves down rather than celebrate their positives. I ended up saying that my positive was the fact that I try to bring positivity to each day with my blog and my Project Smile quotes and post-it notes. Some of the girls were confident enough to put that they were just an amazing person, and instead of thinking they were arrogant I wondered why I don't have that much confidence in myself.

The truth is, you need to learn to love yourself before others can. You need to accept your flaws and accept yourself for who you are, because everyone is an individual and there's nobody else exactly the same as you out there. Everyone is beautiful in their own way - and it's what's inside that counts so much more that your exterior - this is something that I'm really starting to accept. And I'm beginning to like myself, I really am. And that's a whole new exciting chapter of my life that I'm looking forward to exploring.

Spend some time with yourself - learn what it is that makes you tick, and what you really want to get out of life. At the end of the day, you are the one that goes to sleep worrying about yourself at night - it is your opinion on yourself that really matters, because you have to live with yourself every day. Learn what it is that you really like about yourself, whether that's a physical or non-physical trait, and cherish it.

I'm really working on loving myself a bit more, and I think everyone else should too. It doesn't have to be voiced to everyone you meet, but at the same time it's great if you can think of a few things you like about yourself if you're ever asked. The last question on the Twitter chat was, "Feeling beautiful is not the same as being arrogant. Post a favourite selfie/photo of yourself and say why you love it." I couldn't quite face up to that one. Not yet, anyway. Maybe ask me in a few months' time.
It is not what you are that holds you back. It is what you think you are not.

Body Jewellery Shop: Even more earrings

A few months ago I was lucky enough to receive a couple of pairs of earrings from the Body Jewellery Shop (post here), and a couple of days ago I was overjoyed to come home to another little parcel from them.

As I mentioned last time, Body Jewellery Shop sell lots of different body piercing jewellery, from ear piercings to belly bars. The ear piercing jewellery is a huge selection - there are piercings for the tragus, conch, helix, pinna etc - but I only have my lobes pierced so I chose some simple studs to try out.

I loved these stud pentagram earrings when I spotted them on the website. I am a huge fan of the TV programme Supernatural and these reminded me of that. I think they're a little different to the regular studs you can buy, and for only £1.99 they're a bargain too. They'd look great with a leather jacket and some boots.

Also apologies for the lack of make-up on these photos, I took these soon after waking up today and didn't see the point in putting anything on specially for them as I wasn't going out anywhere. Hopefully I haven't scared too many of you!

The other earrings I picked off the site were these clear square jewel earrings. These too are also only £1.99 and are perfect for everyday wear. I will definitely be wearing these when I'm on placement and just need something simple to put in my ears, as we are not allowed a lot of jewellery. I was also sent the clear round jewel earrings*, which are the same but are slightly smaller and round instead of square - these will also be gorgeous for everyday use and are also £1.99.

As well as the low-priced body piercings, Body Jewellery Shop also offers free delivery, so you're not being charged any extra than the product you're paying for. It's a great online destination for anyone looking for literally any type of body jewellery (seriously, I didn't even know some of them existed!), or some cheap studs for everyday use.

Today has been another one spent revising all day. Life is just a little boring right now. The only thing that's getting me through is finishing in a couple of weeks and going on holiday!
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart, rather than a piece of our mind.
